Cheers! to Brenner Children's

The 14th annual Cheers! was held Friday, November 16, 2018 at The Millennium Center. Cheers! first began in 2005 and has raised more than $1 million for Brenner Children’s Hospital. This year, Cheers! raised more than $130,000 to support the campaign to build a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for our smallest patients.

Guests enjoyed an evening of delicious food provided by Alma Mexicana, Canteen Market and Bistro, Carmine’s Jonestown Italian Restaurant, Five Loaves Catering, Millennium Artisan, Providence Restaurant, River Birch Lodge, Roosters – A Noble Grille, The Porch Kitchen and Cantina, Village Juice and Village Tavern. Varietals of Josh Cellars wine were served to complement every menu item. Local craft beer was provided by Fiddlin’ Fish and Incendiary Brewing Co.

In addition to celebrity chef appearances by Chef John Fleer and Pastry Chef Jordan Pilarski, the evening was headlined with the first-ever Battle of the White Coats Cooking Competition featuring the following teams and judges:

Team Chef's Coat - Chef, John Fleer \ Julie Ann Freischlag, MD \ Kevin High, MD
Team Lab Coat - Joey Skelton, MD \ Michael Lischke, Ed.D, MPH \ Sarah Martin, MD Class of 2020 \ Harper Wilson, MD Class of 2020
Judges - Pastry Chef, Jordan Pilarski \ 99.5 On-air Personality, Lora Songster \ Food Editor, Winston-Salem Journal, Michael Hastings

Once the aroma of sweet potatoes and bourbon subsided, Team Chef’s Coat emerged victorious with their Candied Shallot-Sweet Potato Crusted Sea Scallop with Sweet Potato-Ginger Sauce edging out Team Lab Coat with their Redneck Napoleon with Elle May’s Sassy Sauce.

The evening continued with a successful live auction filled with trips, dining experiences, wine and artwork, followed by a paddle raise, desserts and more socializing – a perfect kick-off to the holiday season!
